EUROSPAR Ireland partners with sustainable fashion competition Junk Kouture

This year, EUROSPAR Supermarkets Ireland has extended its collaboration with the sustainable fashion competition Junk Kouture for a second year. The project unites students from the ages of 12 to19 and provides an opportunity for youth to get involved in climate change initiatives in a fun and creative way.

About the project

The competition initially started in Dublin before expanding to London, Paris, Milan, New York and Abu Dhabi. During the competition, participating students work in teams to design an outfit using waste materials such as food containers, drinks packaging, food waste, etc. The outfits undergo several rounds of selection to qualify for the National Finals. 10 winning designs are chosen out of the national finals to compete in the World Finals, held in Monaco.

Responsible Retailing

EUROSPAR Supermarkets Ireland is the only supermarket sponsor in Ireland of Junk Kouture. This partnership is part of the organisation’s responsible retailing strategy which is aimed at supporting local communities. Claire O’Brien, marketing manager of EUROSPAR Supermarkets, highlights that: “At the heart of EUROSPAR Supermarkets is an unbreakable commitment to supporting local communities and responsible retailing. Junk Kouture has revolutionised how society views recycled goods and made sustainability exciting for younger people in Ireland, so we are proud to support them once again in this partnership”.

Looking ahead

The collaboration is to be further extended with a new initiative titled “Classroom Kouture” launched by EUROSPAR Supermarkets in Ireland. The retail organisation will partner with primary schools cited near the 52 EUROSPAR Supermarkets, bringing the concept to younger students.

Talking about the renewed partnership, Troy Armour, CEO of Junk Kouture, said: “We are delighted to have such a well known and trusted brand like EUROSPAR Supermarkets Ireland on board for another year. We are excited to extend Junk Kouture into primary schools with the support of EUROSPAR Supermarkets and their 52 locally owned supermarkets”.
