Sustainable fashion influencer and creative director for fashion label Mother of Pearl, Amy Powney is joining Armchair Adventures for a series of special episodes of the hit podcast.
Amy and kids podcast Armchair Adventures will embark on a magical journey of discovery to explore where our clothes really come from and how making them affects our planet.
As Creative Director, Amy Powney has been on a mission with Mother of Pearl to turn it into a sustainable and transparent brand whose creations do not cost the earth.
Having journeyed over the last six years to explore where her clothes really came from, which became the subject of the documentary Fashion Reimagined, she now wants to take children on that journey too.
Amy says: “Children are fascinated by the natural world, and I wanted to invite them into Narnia in their very own wardrobes, to understand where their clothes really come from.
“I think they would be fascinated to learn that the viscose in their dress came from a mighty tree, or their shorts waved back and forth at them in the breeze across a cotton field.
“Wouldn’t it be funny if they looked at their woolly jumper and imagined two eyes, a mop of hair and a ‘baaaa’ sound, or that the silk on their skin came from a wriggly worm?
“Through this amazing story with the Armchair Adventures podcast, I wanted children’s imaginations to come alive and realise that hidden in their wardrobes is a jungle!”
The aim of the episodes titled ‘A Super Sustainable Fashion Adventure’ is to teach children about sustainable fashion and how what we wear is connected to the planet around us. The story also touches on the less sustainable side of the industry from plastic clothes made from fossil fuels to chemical pollution and water wastage.
